I didn’t expect to get this fantastic view of the Golden Gate Bridge when we set out that morning… Rather, a couple of spontaneous detours ended up with us walking up the Coastal Trail (we’d started at the beach by the Dutch Windmill) until sunset. Sometimes, the best adventures come from accidentally taking a few “wrong” turns.

Exploring Bavaria’s capital, Munich, as a solo traveler

From Marienplatz, the central square in Munich named for the column featuring a golden statue of St. Mary, Munich is an easy city to walk around by yourself.

The square, which doubles as a sort of meeting place for locals and tourists alike, is central to the Alstadt, or old town, and is easily accessible by both the U-bahn and S-bahn. This means that you can use it as a jumping off point for visiting most of the major sites in “downtown” Munich, which is exactly what I did!

I took this photo on the beach in San Francisco as I watched the sun go down behind the island, with the Golden Gate Bridge off to the left. It was truly remarkable and I feel like I got lucky with this photo when those birds decided to fly off into the sunset.
